What are some of the legacies of the Middle Ages?
What legacy from the Middle Ages influences the modern world?

legacy: anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor: the legacy of ancient Rome.

The glorious cathedrals and churches that were built during the middle ages, which are still some of the most wonderful works of architecture ever created. and the mighty castles that still adorn the land.

Some inventions of the middle ages still in use today include spectacles, the compass, and the mechanical clock.

The music composed in medieval times that is still being sung today in churches.

The works of literature that still survive, like Dante's Divine Comedy, Boccacchio's Decameron, and Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.

On the other hand, the Middle Ages saw the foundation of the universities , the oldest of which --Paris (c. 1150), Salerno (1173), and Oxford (1190)-- were already long established by the time of the Hundred Years War. Written communications between scholars at the different universities (usually in Latin) was brisk and lively, another reason why nobles and merchants sought out the company of scholars. The people at the universities always seemed to have a more informed view of the world.

The Magna Carta, signed at Runneymede, June of 1215, by King John and the English Barons.
It "set the stage" for future democratic governments, throughout the world, including the United States of America.

like the stories of King Arther, and Ribbon Hood.
